Titanium for Desalination Plants
Multi-stage flash and MED plants run hot brine against metal 24/7 — the most aggressive water duty titanium is asked to survive. Gr2 handles the bulk of heat-rejection service; Gr12 earns its place on the hot brine side. Either way, projects buy in containers, not cartons.
Where Titanium Sits in MSF / MED
| Zone | First-material practice |
|---|---|
| Brine heater / hot evaporator tubes | Gr12 (hot chloride) |
| Cooling / condensate stages | Gr2 |
| Flash chamber internals | plate Gr2 |
| Piping & flanges | Gr2 tube + flanges |
Gr2 vs Gr12 in Hot Brine
The dividing line is temperature and chloride aggressiveness — hot evaporators/brine heaters trend Gr12, cooling stages stay Gr2 economics. Grade 12 page covers the published-property story.
Project Logistics We've Actually Done
Mixed titanium shipments of ~20 MT in one 20 ft container — tube with plate, flanges and fasteners in the same order structure — is our normal large-buyer pattern (a process client, anonymised). Project timelines accept phased delivery per erection schedule; tube lengths ship in straight sets with end plugs.
Documentation & Inspection
MTC per heat/lot as standard; third-party pre-shipment inspection coordinated on request for EPC paperwork flows.
